This recipe is the perfect fake take-out recipe. It’s not authentic in any way but I can guarantee it will satisfy all those noodle cravings you’ve been having. The noodle and sauce combo is just perfection! With the addition of veggies and meat, you’ll get all your nutrients and feel satiated!
Saucy noodles + vegetables = fake take-out win!
This dish comes together fast, so it will be on your dinner table in under an hour! This recipe is also very versatile, if you don’t have certain vegetables substitute for what you have on hand. Don’t have chicken? Use beef or tofu! Want it more spicy, add more sambel! I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as my household does!
Servings 3 / 15 minutes Prep Time / 45 minutes Total Time
Ingredients
1 tbsp vegetable oil
1 large garlic, grated
½ large onion, minced
2 chicken breast, cut into bite size pieces (about 1/2 inch) (can substitute for other protein source such as beef or tofu)
1 red pepper, thinly sliced
3 bok choy, chopped into bite size pieces
1 large carrot, sliced into matchsticks
2 cups chow mien noodles
¼ cup water
Sauce
1 tbsp corn starch
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp dry sherry
2 tsp white sugar
½ tsp sesame oil
¼ tsp pepper
Garnish
Green onion
Directions
Mix corn starch with soy sauce until lumps are no longer existent. Then add the rest of the sauce ingredients
Add three teaspoons of sauce onto chicken and let marinade for about 10 minutes.
Heat oil in a large skillet on medium high heat.
Add onion and garlic and stir until fragrant. Then add the chicken. Cook until almost cooked through.
Add vegetables and cook until your desired tenderness. I prefer my vegetables on the softer side, so I cook for about 10 minutes. But if you would like more crisp vegetables cook for 5 minutes.
While the vegetables are cooking, get a pot of boiling water and add your noodles and cook based on package instructions.
Once noodles are cooked, strain and add into pan with vegetables and chicken, then add the sauce and water. Give the sauce a stir just before you add it to the pan as the corn starch may have settled at the bottom.
Continuously stir until noodles are covered in sauce and the sauce has thickened.
Garnish with green onion. Enjoy!
