I love the combination of these flavours paired with the ground beef. You have the saltiness from the soy, the sweetness from the sugar and a bit of spicy to round out the whole dish. As well, ground beef is an affordable option and makes enough to feed a lot. This recipe pairs well with steamed rice and broccoli. To make this dish over the top, I highly recommend you take an extra three minutes and make a fried egg to top off the dish. You’ll want to make this recipe time and time again!
4 servings / 10 mins prep time / 30 mins total time
Ingredients
1 lb extra lean ground beef
1 glove garlic, grated
1 tsp ginger, grated
Pepper
Green onion for garnish
Sesame seeds for garnish
Fried egg for garnish
Sauce
2 tbsps soy sauce
2 tbsps water
3 tbsps brown sugar
1 tbsp sambel olek (optional)
Directions
In a bowl combine sauce ingredients.
In a skillet on medium heat add the ground beef, garlic, ginger and season with pepper. Cook until no longer pink, about 10 minutes.
Add the sauce to the skillet and cook until it becomes slightly thick and the beef starts to get crispy, about 5-8 minutes.
To serve, get a bowl of cooked rice and put a generous amount of the ground beef on top. Serve along steamed broccoli and top with a fried egg. Garnish with green onion and sesame seeds and enjoy!
